Profit on paper and money in the account are two different things. The gap between them is where otherwise good businesses get into trouble.
A profitable month can empty your account. Materials bought in advance, a customer paying on sixty days, a loan payment where most of it is principal and never touches the profit and loss. All normal, all invisible on a profit and loss statement.
Cash flow work makes the timing visible. Where money comes in, when it actually lands, what leaves before it does, and which weeks in the next quarter are going to be uncomfortable if nothing changes.

Cash converted into things on a shelf. Profitable eventually, unavailable now, and easy to over-order when a season looks strong.
Principal repayment never appears on a profit and loss statement, which is why a business can look healthy and still run out of room.

A forecast that sits in a folder is an expensive document. The useful version gets revisited against what actually happened, because the gap between the two is where you learn how your business really behaves.
